if it's not one thing, it's another.

hmmm, let's see.  "baby"... dum dee dum... "break"...

oh, hey there!  don't mind me, I was just thumbing through the dictionary!  with the toddlers gone this week, it seems I've run out of things to occupy myself with.  so, just thought I'd, you know, bury my face in the dictionary for a bit.  gotta keep the ole noggin' in shape!  ha ha.  by the way, did you know that the word "break" comes after the word "baby" in the dictionary?  you did?  oh.  well, I always knew you were smarter than me.

no, but seriously.  I suppose you're wondering where I'm heading with this?  well then, let me explain.  (and I assure you, it will make sense.  I think?)

if you recall, shortly (like less than a week) after Scarlett was born there was an incident that occurred which resulted in a broken leg (see? "break" comes after "baby" aren't I clever?)  an incident that could have been avoided had my children listened to their mother.  but, moms don't know anything... besides maybe their age.  and sometimes, they don't even know that.  I'm going to be 35?  you're kidding!  and here I've been telling everyone that I'm turning 25 in a couple weeks, ha ha whoops!

below: Phoebe with broken leg (pictured here with one week-old Scarlett, April 2010.)

okay, so.  fast forward a year and a half.  it's been a whole six? maybe seven? days since I gave birth to Finley.

mm-hmm, I see you all nodding.  go on... go on.

so yeah, long story short.  I'm relaxing on the couch, sipping my afternoon cup of coffee, when suddenly Sawyer bursts into the house screaming, his face white as a ghost. between chokes and sobs he manages to squeak out that he can't move his arm.  "mom, am I PARALYZED?"  also, something about racing and a steep hill and a Razor scooter and... yeah.

end result: broken collarbone.

apparently, this appears to be the new trend around here; have a baby, kid breaks a bone, tra la la, no big deal.

uh, excuse me while I go sob into my pillow.  and wonder, why... why do these things always happen to me?

Rut Roh. Um, wanna keep the kids down here for another week? No, forget I asked that. (Going to pick them up in an hour or so - it will be fun!)

I can relate Jessica! When we had Bryn (now 5), I came home from the hospital on the Friday that Monticello services started. The air conditioning had quit working while I was in the hosp., so I was a little stewed up about that, but when we drove in the driveway at 4:00 or so, we were met by a boy with arm hanging and tears streaming down his face! Unreal!! So Bruce had his work cut out for him, off to the hosp he went. He got the a/c fixed that evening too...what a guy :) When it rains, it pours! Linda

just because a new baby arrives at the homestead doesn't mean that the world stops spinning. I guess it means that the other kiddos want mom to know that they're still your child also! hopefully everyone heals quickly!

Oh.no. I can't believe it!! Just line the kids on the couch and tell them to sit on their hands for 2 weeks while mom heals.

Oh boy! Always something to keep life exciting. We too had a similiar scene; Zack broke his leg the day Monika was born. I agree with Ruth, tell them kids to sit on their hands, but then again kids would still end up getting hurt somehow!

Wow. What bad timing. Yikes. I hope everyone can settle down now and get some rest :)
