it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

we've been busy decking the halls; frosting every corner with decorations-- sparkly little things that have caught the eyes of curious little ones who know there is something magical about this time of year, but aren't quite sure.  is santa for real?

the tree went up the day after Thanksgiving, and as with every year, the excitement around here escalated a few degrees.  mom, how many more days until Christmas? mom, where should we hang the stockings?  mom, can I hang this ornament on the tree?  mom, when can we have our Christmas party?  mom, can we do a name exchange this year?  mom this.  mom that.  mom, why aren't you answering me?  mooooom!

Gary and I joined the mobs of people on Black Friday to do some Christmas shopping.  I don't know about you guys, but there's nothing that gets me into the holiday spirit more than a good old-fashioned round of bumper carts.  moooove it, lady!  get out of my way, you dimwit!  I was here first, needlenose!  yeah well, merry Christmas to you, too!  I guess what matters is that, aside from a few last-minute things (read: stocking stuffers, UGH), we were able to knock it all out.  and you're not going to believe this but, I even went as far as to wrap everything.  I'm so on the ball this year.

last weekend, my three oldest girls hosted a Christmas party for a few of their friends.  they played games, organized scavenger hunts, decorated Christmas cut-outs, had a contest to see who could stand barefoot in the snow the longest, exchanged gifts, and pretty much had an all-out good time.  last I heard, they were already brewing up plans for a Valentine's Day get-together.  fun times!  as long as it doesn't turn into Groundhog Day, President's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Happy National Underwear Day, and etc, I'm good with it.

although the past couple of weeks have been a constant flurry of activity, nevertheless, I'm loving the process of filling this last volume as purposefully as we can before we add it to the shelf and slide the bookend into place; our year, our stories, our memories.

wishing each and every one of you a wonderful holiday season.  may your home be filled with peace, joy and love.
